Azzurre da record but Camila Giorgi sinks
Camila Giorgi is now the number five Italian tennis player
A banner Sunday for Italian women’s tennis: Jasmine Paolini and Elisabetta Cocciaretto won their respective ITF tournaments in Spain and Mexico, gaining points and positions in the WTA rankings.
Now the world ranking sees as many as five azzurre in the top 70: Martina Trevisan is Italy’s number one and occupies 24th place. Lucia Bronzetti is second in 60th place, followed closely by Jasmine Paolini (63rd) and Elisabetta Cocciaretto (64th).
On the other hand, Camila Giorgi slipped: the 30-year-old from Macerata, who has been stationary since the Us Open, has now dropped to 69th position, and for the first time in years is only the fifth strongest tennis player in Italy. Just outside the Top 100 is Sara Errani, in 104th position.
