Several positive news for the top ten Italian tennis players in the women’s world rankings released this morning by the WTA. Ahead of them all is still Martina Trevisan, who, however, takes a step back and is 27th. The 28-year-old left-hander from Tuscany in this 2022 now drawing to a close won her first WTA trophy on clay in Rabat and reached the semifinals at Roland Garros, a career-best result in a Slam. Behind her is Lucia Bronzetti, who regains another position and is now No. 60. With her victory in the $100,000 ITF in Les Franqueses del Valles she climbs 15 places to Jasmine Paolini, who moves up to number 63. The same change for Elisabetta Cocciaretto: the 21-year-old from Fermo, thanks to her first success in a WTA 125k on the Mexican cement of Tampico, also makes a 15-step leap and goes to sit on the number 64 seat, signing yet another best ranking this season after she had dropped as low as number 242 at the beginning of March.
Both Paolini and Cocciaretto bypass Camila Giorgi, stable at number 69, while just outside the top 100 takes two steps back Sara Errani, who drops to number 104. Gaining seven positions are Lucrezia Stefanini, who rises to number 142 (-2 from personal best), and eight Camilla Rosatello, now at number 228. Finally, of note are the best rankings for both Nuria Brancaccio, number 270, with a leap of nineteen places from last week, and Matilde Paoletti, number 398 with two positions gained.
