Novak Djokovic returned to talk about the GOAT issue, speaking at the microphones of RMC Sport on the eve of the Paris-Bercy Masters 1000 where the Serbian is defending champion.
“There are so many factors to discuss who is the real GOAT,” the Serbian tennis player began. At the end of the day, I want to make history in our sport but I prefer that others talk about it.”
“Whenever I am on the court with the racket I look for inspiration, even if I am unmotivated, I try to find ways to keep my game constant and try to improve it. I think this is the main condition to continue playing tennis at this level after almost 20 Years,” continued the 21-time Slam champion.
“There is always the ambition to win the most important titles we have in our sport and it’s good to be in history. We are in a special era, but making history in the sport is the greatest motivation we all have,” Djokovic concluded.
Novak Djokovic, known to all as Nole is considered one of the best tennis players in history by virtue of the records and titles he has won. In 2021, he came close to accomplishing the feat of making the Grand Slam , succeeded only by Rod Laver in the Open Era in 1969 – but was defeated in three sets by Russian Daniil Medvedev in the final of the Us Open. The Serb is, moreover, the tennis player who has finished the season the most times (7) as No. 1 in the ATP ranking, as well as holding the all-time record of having spent a total of 373 weeks at the top of that ranking.
