Barcelona, Gerard Piqué’s tearful farewell: ‘Good riddance’
Defender’s career ends with a win
It is now official: Piqué has stopped playing soccer. His last match, at Camp Nou, against Almeria (2-0 the final for the blaugrana) was an opportunity to bid a fitting farewell to his public. It was an evening full of emotions with Laporta, president of the blaugrana club, who also presented a silver plaque to the now former defender in the post-match ceremony.
Piqué, to LaLiga TV, gave the following reasons for his decision to call it quits this season: “You always think about one more year, you never think about retirement. But, sometimes, things go a certain way and you have to make a decision. These six months have been very difficult. Today was a liberation. I will always carry this unforgettable moment with me,” the 35-year-old Piqué’s heartfelt words.
