F1, Fernando Alonso gets out of line on Aston Martin
Alonso has big ambitions with Aston Martin
Fernando Alonso is already looking to the future. The Spanish driver arrived at the Brazilian Grand Prix with high ambitions about his new adventure that will see him race with Aston Martin starting next season.
“I think Aston Martin is not here to be fourth, fifth or sixth in the championship, but to win the world championship, and we will try to do that in 2023 or 2024,” said the current Alpine driver.
Now, however, two more races with the French stable await him: “Seeing the checkered flag has not happened as often as I would have liked, and if we finish here, in Brazil and Abu Dhabi, we will finish in good shape. The goal is to maximize the days available on the circuit, and Interlagos is different from any other circuit on the calendar, you have to focus, but also make progress for the future.”
“Last year I was not giving my best, I had to face some challenges, but this year I was very close to 100 percent. So I will remember these two seasons for the opportunity they gave me,” Alonso said about his experience with Alpine.
He went on to talk about the opportunity to already try out his new Aston Martin single-seater in post-race testing in Abu Dhabi: “It’s important because next year the car will be very different, for everyone. In terms of comfort, the steering wheel, the buttons, I think it will change a lot and it will be nice to spend a day in the car.
“Of course I will miss Vettel. We have been together in Formula 1 for many years, so it has been my daily life here, I will always be connected to Sebastian,” he finally commented on Vettel’s farewell, who will be precisely replaced by Alonso.
