F1, Mika Hakkinen gets out of line on George Russell’s future
Hakkinen makes a prediction about the Mercedes driver’s future
Former Finnish Lotus and McLaren driver Mika Hakkinen has opened up about the future of George Russell, who won his first career Formula 1 Grand Prix in Brazil.
“The race was good this weekend, and George deserved it after a brilliant performance. He was the fastest Mercedes driver in sprint qualifying, and he won the latter impressively. He drove perfectly on Sunday, making a great start and creating a good gap on his pursuers, not allowing the Safety Car to interfere. He had pressure, especially when Hamilton came within 1 1/2 seconds, but he handled it perfectly,” he explained in his column on Unibet.
“This looks like the first of many wins for George, he is at the right time in his career, he is 24 years old and full of motivation. He did three years at Williams, learning in a less competitive car and had almost won the Bahrain GP in 2020 with Mercedes. He had to wait until this weekend to have a competitive car again, and once he had those conditions he won right away,” Hakkinen admitted.
