Rabiot preaches calm for renewal

In a lengthy interview with Gazzetta dello Sport Adrien Rabiot also spoke about the renewal issue, as well as the possibility of a comeback for the Scudetto.

The French midfielder began with a thought about the World Cup: “It is a dream that was not realized four years ago in Russia, now instead I am enjoying it to the fullest, thinking back even to the first most intense memories of when I was a child. In particular, the 2006 World Cup with Zidane’s great comeback, the cheering at every match, pity only for the final lost on penalties against Italy…”

He then praised the work of Max Allegri: “I also learned a lot with Sarri, but these seasons with Allegri have allowed me to improve so much. This year, for example, I am studying a lot of video with one of his deputies, Paolo Bianco. It’s work that then serves me well in the national team as well, although we obviously play differently here.”

“Given the roster, I never had any doubts about the possibility of fighting for the title. The beginning was not easy because of injuries. We never played full, but we had the goal of returning to the podium before the World Cup, to challenge Napoli in January, who made an incredible start to the season. But they too will lose a few points on the road, it’s up to us to take advantage of that. Ten points seems like a lot, but the season is long. The return of Chiesa and Pogba will do us good, as will the contribution of youngsters like Fagioli, Miretti, Soulé and Iling-Junior. Together we can aim for the Scudetto. It is almost a shame to stop now because a change of mentality has been triggered and we have created the right climate, with energy and enthusiasm,” he then commented on the possible Scudetto comeback.

The Bianconeri footballer expressed himself thus on the renewal issue: “It is true, there were contacts in the Premier, but in the end it was perhaps fortunate that he stayed, perhaps the best decision. The Premier remains the most followed league, but I don’t think about the future, I remain focused on the World Cup. The club and I are in no hurry, there is serenity and we will have time to weigh every possibility.”

Finally a joke about Pogba, one of the big absentees in the World Cup in Qatar: “Did he give me an assignment? Actually he gives me one every game, motivating me, asking me for goals, also because when he comes back he will definitely want to compete at the top. We have a good relationship, I’m sorry he’s not there. For the World Cup, he told me it’s up to me to drag France like I do with Juve. I know he is with us anyway.”
