Davis Cup, Lorenzo Musetti peremptory on the absences of Sinner and Berrettini
Musetti’s words on the eve of Italy-United States
Lorenzo Musetti spoke to Sky Sport microphones ahead of the Davis Cup quarterfinal match between Italy and the United States, scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 24, in Malaga.
The number three of Italy expressed himself on the absences of Sinner and Berrettini: “I’m living it very well, we are friends in this group. There is harmony. The absences of Sinner and Berrettini are heavy, they are the spearheads of the team, but they will give us support from afar. I will try to bring out the best, I am convinced that we can win even without Matteo and Jannik. They are in condition, we are training well. The court is faster than in Bologna, but the balls wear out a lot. It’s a court that on paper favors the Americans, but we also have characteristics that suit the fast indoor court. We are enjoying it with energy and motivation, we are experiencing it well.”
He then analyzed his opponents, “Against Fritz it’s tough, he comes from an incredible season. He is annoying on these courts, serves well and is heavy from the back. Since I lost at Wimbledon I have changed a lot, I have also beaten players of a certain caliber and my confidence has increased. I hope to play carefree and express my best tennis. The Davis Cup is very important, we live it in several stages and it unites so much. It makes us live with intensity and energy because of the team and the group, which unites to double the emotions.”
“The debut in Davis with Slovakia is one of the moments I remember with most pleasure. Representing Italy is always a pride. The attachment to the jersey is incredible, you never let anything go and you fight until the end. You feel the energy of your teammates, of the staff, and that leads you to always give 100 percent. On an individual level it is not always like that. I believe in hard work and humility to not go in defeated. We are underdogs given the absences, but we have the cards to be able to beat them. Even they will not go in confident that they have already won, it will be a good challenge against a great team,” Musetti concluded.
