Davis Cup, Auger-Aliassime makes confession about Matteo Berrettini
Auger-Aliassime’s words.
Felix Auger-Aliassime, hero of the Davis Cup victory with Canada, gave an interview to La Gazzetta dello Sport in which he returned to the victory with Italy in the semifinals, expressing in particular thoughts for his friend Matteo Berrettini.
“Matteo and I crossed paths before we faced each other on the court, it’s too bad he wasn’t yet in full form, it would have been a great challenge if we were all at 100 percent. However, I am sure that the worst is over for him: in Australia he will be among the opponents to beat. Italy, along with us and the United States, will also be among the Davis Cup contenders in the coming years.”
“The Italians? Matteo Berrettini’s strength and power are impressive, then he is a nice person: we are friends and it is a positive rivalry. Sinner is still growing, but I think he is one of the candidates to win Slams in the future. Musetti is the youngest, he is also making a lot of progress and his tennis is really spectacular,” Aliassime continued, praising the Italian tennis movement.
Finally, the Canadian tennis player admitted his charitable efforts, “For every point I score I donate $10 to projects related to education and health care in Togo (his father’s original country, ed.). This season I must say it has gone pretty well, so for me this project is an extra push to give everything I have on the court.”
