Fabio Fognini won’t rest on Davis Cup and beyond
Fabio Fognini, long end-of-season message
Three days after the bitter end of the Davis Cup semifinals, Fabio Fognini wanted to address a message to his followers on Instagram, speaking extensively about the Italian disappointment but also not forgetting other aspects of a year that he himself called “not very positive.”
“It’s been a few days since the defeat and I’ve had a chance to tidy up the many thoughts that have been going through my head,” the Ligurian tennis player began. “It’s a defeat that I do and will have a hard time digesting because perhaps NEVER as this year the goal of raising the salad bowl was possible. I am disappointed, very disappointed, because I saw the opportunity to play this beautiful final ‘slip through my fingers’. The years go by and so do the opportunities….”
“It ended a year that was definitely not a good one, with no major results,” he added. “A little bit due to bad luck, a little bit due to injuries, and a lot due to not being able to play at the level I think I can still express! Now a few days off… It’s off to recharge the batteries and face winter preparation with the goal of improving physical fitness, which has been my Achilles’ heel this year….”
“To all of you who support me…once again I say THANK YOU! I have enjoyed having you by my side, and hearing from you in the dark and difficult moments of this season! I greet you with the hope and desire to still be able to defend the most beautiful colors in the world, and with the knowledge of one who is ready to defend the flag tooth and nail regardless of the final result!!!” then concluded Fognini.
