Hercules Baldini died

Cycling is mourning the death of Ercole Baldini, who passed away at the age of 89.

“The train from Forlì,” as he was nicknamed, marked the history of two wheels by collecting a series of incredible victories: from the Olympic gold medal in Melbourne 1956 to the 1958 Giro d’Italia, from the World Championship in Reims also in 1958 to the hour record, set at the Vigorelli with 46.394.

The results of that two-year golden era were not later repeated, partly because of appendicitis.
