Sofia Goggia, third round in comeback in Lake Louise
Sofia Goggia in Lake Louise
Nina Ortlieb was again the fastest in the third and final run ahead of the women’s downhill in Lake Louise, Canada. The Austrian daughter of art, who had set the best time in last Tuesday’s first official training run contested on the entire course (while on Wednesday the start was lowered), repeated herself again on this occasion by setting a time of 1’48″79, with which she beat Olympic champion of the specialty Corinne Suter by 33 hundredths, while Slovenian Ilka Stuhec finished third at 58 hundredths.
At home in Italy, Sofia Goggia finished fourth. The Bergamo native struggled slightly in the initial section, where she did not go beyond 22nd time, then she was almost always the fastest in the remaining sections. For the fight for the podium in Friday’s downhill (8 p.m. Italian time) she will be there. “I did everything pretty well, apart from maybe a pass in the middle zone, it’s just a matter of putting all the pieces together in the coming days and pushing hard.” Nicole Delago also confirmed herself as competitive: the Gardena native finished 13th, showing improvement from previous days, while her sister Nadia placed 26th, two places ahead of Laura Pirovano. Further back were Marta Bassino and Elena Curtoni (tied 32nd), with Federica Brignone 37th, Karoline Pichler 39th and Roberta Melesi 40th.
