Magnificent Sofia Goggia: immediately scoring in the World Cup
Sofia Goggia won the downhill race in Lake Louise
First race of the season and first World Cup victory for Sofia Goggia. The skier from Bergamo won in the specialty in which she is the undisputed queen, the downhill: on the Canadian slopes of Lake Louise, Azzurra triumphed ahead of reigning Olympic champion Corinne Suter and Australian Mirjam Puchner.
Thanks to this success, Goggia achieved her 18th World Cup victory, and above all, she confirmed her feeling on the Lake Louise slope, where last season she won three times in three days.
And Azzurra will immediately look for an encore on Saturday night in the second downhill also scheduled in the Canadian resort. For Sofia it is the 12th downhill won in her World Cup career.
The other Italians: Elena Curtoni placed in the top ten, in seventh place. Further back was Nicol Delago, twelfth, while Marta Bassino, Laura Pirovano and Nadia Delago were all outside the top twenty.
