Rumors continue swirling, amid dramatic tones on the one hand and reassurances on the other, regarding the health condition of Pelé, the great champion now 82 years old who was hospitalized a few days ago in São Paulo Hospital for complications related to his battle with colon cancer.

O Rei himself, through his official Instagram profile, tried to respond in turn, trying to dampen speculation about his health: “Friends,” the message reads, “I want you all to remain calm and think positive. I am strong and with great hope I continue my clinical treatments. I want to thank all the medical and nursing staff at the hospital for the care I am receiving.”

“I have great faith in God,” Pelé added, “every message I receive from you all, from all over the world, gives me great energy. And don’t forget to follow Brazil in the World Cup! Thank you for everything.”
