A Serbian jewel in Cagliari’s sights
A Serbian jewel in Cagliari’s sights
The great work of market monitoring continues for Cagliari: new sporting director Nereo Bonato has immediately activated a large network of scouts with the aim of securing crystalline talents.
The latest name to end up in the Sardinians’ notebook is that of Djordje Gordic, a jewel of FK Mladost Lucani, a club in the Serbian first division. The player, a born trequartista but also adaptable as a central midfielder, this season has put his signature on 3 goals and 1 assist in 17 appearances. His value is around 1 million euros but the contract expiration in 2023 plays in Giulini’s club’s favor. Still, the track remains alive for Ryotaro Araki, a Japanese jewel from Kashima Antlers on whom, however, there are also some Championship clubs.
The scudetto won by Cagliari at the end of the 1969-70 season has remained in the history of Italian soccer. Manlio Scopigno was on the bench while the team’s star was Gigi Riva: the bomber scored 21 goals, boasting the title of top scorer for the third time in just four years. Riva ended his very long experience on the island in 1977, having scored something like 164 goals.
