Horner impressed by Russell

Red Bull’s team principal was impressed by George Russell’s first world championship in Mercedes: the former Williams driver finished the championship in fourth place, ahead of teammate Lewis Hamilton in sixth. What’s more, the 1998 class also took the Britons’ only win of the season.

“The fact that George Russell finished ahead of Lewis Hamilton in his first year with the team is a sign of an impressive performance, but Lewis is obviously still there. It’s safe to imagine that they will be back fighting hard next year and that Ferrari will also be looking to make progress. Next year promises to be a really difficult season,” admitted the Austrian team executive, in the words reported by ‘FormulaPassion’.

It was Sebastian Vettel who was the first driver to win a world championship with Red Bull. The German put everyone in line for four years in a row, from 2010 to 2013. The Austrian stable returned to success in 2021 thanks to Dutchman Max Verstappen, with the son of art repeating the following year. If there was a battle to the last in 2021, that was not the case in 2022.
