Germany, federation does not change its mind about Hansi Flick
Hansi Flick confirmed to lead German national team
The disappointment of being eliminated at the Qatar 2022 group stage was strong, but the German federation has decided to keep Hansi Flick at the helm of the ‘Nationalmannschaft,’ with the goal of winning the European Championship to be held, in 2024, in Germany itself.
“DFB President Bernd Neuendorf, DFB Vice-President Hans-Joachim Watzke, and national team coach Hansi Flick had a friendly and constructive discussion today about the current situation and prospects of the German national soccer team,” reads a note from the federation.
“We are all convinced that the European Championship 2024 in our country represents a great opportunity for soccer in Germany,” Neuendorf said on the sidelines of the meeting. “Our goal is to win this tournament. We have full confidence in Hansi Flick who will lead the team in this challenge. As for the successor to Oliver Bierhoff (who resigned from all managerial positions in recent days, ed.), we agreed that we will first discuss the future structure within the DFB and then make a decision on personnel.”
“My technical staff and I are confident for the European Championships, which will be played in our country,” Flick commented. “As a team, we can achieve much more than we did in Qatar. We missed a great opportunity, we will imperish the lesson. I have confidence in the path agreed upon today with Bernd Neuendorf and Aki Watzke. We all want all of Germany to come back and support the national team at its home European Championships in 2024.”
