Matteo Berrettini stays in Riyad for doubles.

Matteo Berrettini’s engagement in Saudi Arabia did not start in the best of ways: in the first round of the Diriyah Cup, in fact, the Roman was defeated by veteran Stan Wawrinka in three super-tiebreaks (according to the special rules of the tournament), which ended 5-10, 10-4, 10-6 and lasted a total of 35 minutes.

However, the defeat did not take the smile off Berrettini’s face, who on Thursday evening commented on Instagram, “I’m having fun in Riyadh, it’s always a pleasure to visit new places and meet new people.”

Berrettini, by the way, has not finished his engagement in the outskirts of the Saudi capital: in fact, on Friday he is engaged in doubles together with Russian Andrey Rublev: opponents are Austrian Dominic Thiem and German Sascha Zverev.
