Celebrated middle distance runner David Rudisha risked his life in a plane crash

David Rudisha miraculously saved after a plane crash last Saturday near Loitokitok, a village in Kenya’s Kajiado County. The Cessna in which the Kenyan middle distance runner, record holder in the 800 and among the greatest of his generation, was traveling, crashed minutes after takeoff due to an unidentified mechanical problem.

With the world record holder were the pilot and two other occupants of the aircraft, all of whom were safe. Rudisha resoundingly escaped unscathed, while Stephen Ole Marai, an official of the Kenyan athletic federation, was hospitalized with rib fractures, reports Corriere della Sera.

Rudisha commented on the mishap: “The pilot saw a clear space where he tried to land the plane but one of his wings hit a tree as the plane started to spin before landing on the rocky field, and now we thank God that we all got out alive because it was a scary episode, the kind where you hold your heart in your hand and pray. The pilot did an incredible job of keeping the plane stable for a long time.”
