No award, Nick Kyrgios explodes in anger
Australian tennis player snubbed by his federation
It has been a 2022 to remember for the controversial Nick Kyrgios, who this season has regained his tennis and determination to enhance his undoubted talent and return to the world’s greats after a dull period. This year the 27-year-old Australian reached the final at Wimbledon, and won the Australian Open doubles tournament, then finished 22nd in the Atp rankings.
Kyrgios thus did not hide his anger when the Australian Federation decided to award the prestigious Newcombe Medal, the oceanic country’s best player award, to compatriot Ashleigh Barty, who has played very little this season having retired at only 26 last March (but winning the Australian Open in early 2022).
On social media Kyrgios exploded: “Lol, no respect, I don’t give a f—,” he blurted out on Instagram, showing a chart comparing his numbers to his compatriot’s.
