The release of the series A
The Lega Serie A, through a statement on its official channels, wished to express its full sympathy to the loved ones of Sinisa Mihajlovic, who passed away on Friday, Dec. 16, at the age of 53.
“Lega Serie A is deeply saddened by the passing of Sinisa Mihajlovic, who left us today at the age of 53,” the note reads.
“Sinisa`s career in Italy began in 1992 with the Roma shirt. In July 1994 he was bought by Sampdoria, with the blucerchiati he collected 110 appearances and 12 goals, establishing himself as a specialist in free kick goals. In 1998 he moved permanently to Lazio, with which he won a Scudetto (2000), two Italian Super Cups (1998 and 2000), a UEFA Super Cup (1999), a Cup Winners’ Cup (1999) and two Italian Cups (2000 and 2004). From 2004 to 2006 he wore the Inter shirt, with the Nerazzurri he won two Italian Cups (2005 and 2006) and a Scudetto (2006). When his career as a footballer ended, Mihajlovic began his adventure on the bench as assistant coach at Inter along with Roberto Mancini, putting two Scudetti (2007 and 2008) and an Italian Supercup (2006) in his trophy cabinet, only to leave the post shortly after the arrival of José Mourinho. In 2008 he accepted an offer from Bologna, then to follow the benches of Catania, Fiorentina, the Serbian national team and Sampdoria. In the 2015/2016 season he became the new coach of AC Milan, under his guidance blossomed the young promise Donnarumma and the Rossoneri club reached the Italian Cup Final. Next he was coach of Torino and finally returned after 10 years to Bologna,” the statement continued.
“A footballer endowed with the purest class and a coach of great charisma, his strength and humanity were an example that traced an indelible furrow in Italian and world soccer. President Lorenzo Casini, CEO Luigi De Siervo and the entire Lega Serie A huddle around Mihajlovic`s family and express their deepest condolences for the passing of Sinisa,” it concludes.
