Cherif Traore accepts apology: ‘Idiocy and nothing else’

Benetton Rugby has announced that the entire team group has been convened at “La Ghirada” sports center following what happened to its player Cherif Traore. The meeting opened by the words of President Amerino Zatta and General Manager Antonio Pavanello, who reiterated to all present the firm position of condemnation by the club towards any form of expression of racism and form of discrimination, then continued with an apology addressed by all the green-and-white players towards their teammate.

Cherif Traore, having accepted his teammates’ apologies, said, “This afternoon’s meeting was an opportunity to confront and understand how what one of my teammates did at the Christmas gift exchange was purely the result of idiocy and nothing else. I appreciated and accepted his apology and that of the entire team. I am glad for the gesture and I am sure that what happened will make the group even stronger. We are a family and as such we will continue our efforts on and off the field fighting, as we always have, against all forms of discrimination.”
