Absent from the grid next season, they will pair off away from F1.

Sebastian Vettel and Mick Schumacher have never made a secret of their excellent relationship. The two even crossed paths at Ferrari, with the latter joining Maranello’s Driver Academy when the former was its official driver. In 2023, however, neither will have a Formula 1 steering wheel, yet the opportunity to finally pair up on the track has arrived.

In fact, on Wednesday came the officialdom on Vettel and Schumacher’s participation in the Race of Champions 2023, in which they will be the ones taking to the track representing Germany. The team race, in which national teams face each other, will be held in Sweden on Jan. 28 and 29 of the new year.

“Returning to the Race of Champions will be great, and even more so will be finding Sebastian on the track again,” Mick Schumacher commented. “We hope to hold Team Germany’s name high in the event. By joining forces we aim to fight for the title.”

“The one in the Race of Champions will be my first race after retiring from Formula 1,” Vettel, on the other hand, recalled. “Finding Mick Schumacher by my side again makes me very happy. During their common F1 experience, it was common for the two German drivers to ask their respective teams via radio about the result their compatriot was achieving during various qualifying and Grand Prix races.
