Lewis Hamilton and 2022 ‘bewitched’: ‘But it made us grow a lot’
A very difficult year, which can now be more calmly analyzed.
Lewis Hamilton returns to his and Mercedes’ 2022, a season in which the team achieved only one victory with George Russell and the seven-time world champion for the first time in his career ended the sporting year without winning a single Grand Prix. And in his year-end reflections he admitted that the mindset has now changed as well.
“Only in Barcelona did we get a first idea of the real potential of the car,” Hamilton revealed about the Mercedes W13. But it was a kind of illusion, as the problems returned in the following races. It seemed like there was a ghost in the car, which kept coming back. Fortunately from France we grew, then came the Austin update that worked.”
“I never had any doubt that we would recover,” Hamilton added. “However, 2022 was marked by many attempts by the team, and several proved to be failures. I myself have often tried things that did not work. However, this allows you to grow and learn a lot. And in fact this year has been helpful in reducing ego and increasing relationships with each other. And in that we have grown a lot.”
