Vittorio Adorni is dead: Italian cycling loses one of its symbols
Vittorio Adorni has died, he was 85 years old
It is a sad Christmas Eve for Italian sport, especially cycling: at 85 years old, Vittorio Adorni, one of the symbols of tricolor cycling, passed away. The first to publicly break the news was Felice Gimondi’s daughter, Norma, via social media. Gimondi (who passed away in 2019) and Adorni had been teammates at Salvarani for two years, and had often shared experience on the national team.
It was precisely with the Azzurri jersey that Adorni had achieved one of his two most prestigious successes, the 1968 Road World Championship in Imola, three years after another legendary success, at the 1965 Giro d’Italia.
In addition to his victories on the bike, Adorni had earned esteem in radio and television due to his qualities as a technical commentator; between 2006 and 2009 he had also participated in the political life of Parma (he was a native of San Lazzaro Parmense), as a sports councillor.
