Mikaela Shiffrin wins 78th World Cup victory
Mikaela Shiffrin won the World Cup giant slalom in Semmering, Austria. The U.S. star, who thanks to this success rises to 68 career World Cup triumphs, dominated the race by mortgaging victory with an extraordinary first run, then managed the lead without taking risks.
Shiffrin finished ahead of Slovakian Petra Vlhova, third was Italian Marta Bassino: the specialty leader racked up her third consecutive podium finish of the season, finishing 30 hundredths behind the American.
Fourth place for France’s Tessa Worley, then Federica Brignone, who made up for a lackluster first run with an excellent second half.
