Gianfranco Matteoli doesn’t mince words about Claudio Ranieri
Reached by La Nuova Sardegna, Gianfranco Matteoli had his say on Claudio Ranieri’s return to Cagliari: “In today’s soccer, one thing counts a lot: a coach who knows how to make a group and Claudio Ranieri in this is absolutely one of the best. He knows how to involve everyone, he knows how to treat the players and bring out the best from each of them.”
“His success rests on two pillars: deep knowledge of soccer and the ability to be a team player. Meanwhile, he has already done one thing: he has brought back confidence in the whole environment, and that is not a given.”
Matteoli then returned to his move to the Rossoblù club, which took place in 1990: “My choice to play for Cagliari came from a chat in 1989, when I went with Inter for a friendly match with Cagliari, which was celebrating promotion to Serie B and success in the Italian Cup in Serie C. And at the end of the game I told him that I would have loved to play for Cagliari. Said and done.”
