Dakar 2023, David Castera: “Last year was too easy.”
Dakar director created a more challenging route
After criticism against him for the last edition, which he called too easy, Dakar director Castera, in a lengthy interview with Spanish media AS, explained why the 2023 edition (Dec. 31-Jan. 14) will be much more complicated than the previous one.
“First of all, it will be longer, with more kilometers. Definitely longer because there are 14 days and many more kilometers in every single stage. We worked a lot to make it more difficult, and I think it is, although the Dakar is never easy,” the words of Castera himself, who adds, “It all takes place in Saudi Arabia, which is a huge country. We took full advantage of the Empty Quarter (the largest desert in the world, ed.).”
