Jannik Sinner and the Australian Open: confidence is not lacking
“When I get out of bed every morning, I try to improve in every aspect.”
Arriving in Australia well in advance of the Australian Open main event-the Blue will be competing in the ATP 250 tournament in Adelaide, which kicks off Jan. 1-Jannik Sinner is full of good intentions ahead of the first Slam of the year.
Interviewed by the official website of the Australian Open, which posted his words on its Instagram channel, the South Tyrolean told of his hopes for the tournament on Melbourne’s concrete, which will start on January 16 and end on the 29th of the same month.
“I want to win. For me that’s the first thing. First, however, you have to learn by losing. My debut in Australia was not easy. There are always new challenges. There is a lot of work to do, of course. When I get out of bed every morning I try to improve in every aspect of my game,” he began. “In 2022 I had a good start, reaching the quarterfinals in Melbourne, so I hope to repeat myself and get off to a good start next season as well, we’ll see. I hope it can be a year full of satisfaction,” he concluded.
Despite having achieved excellent results in skiing since childhood, at the age of 13 Jannik decided to devote himself exclusively to tennis, moving to Bordighera, at the court of Riccardo Piatti. It was a choice that would prove successful, as Sinner is the youngest Italian tennis player ever to enter the top 100 (October 2019) and to win an ATP title in the Open era (Sofia 2020). In addition, along with Matteo Berrettini, Jannik is the only Italian tennis player to have reached at least the round of 16 in all four Slams. For him, 2022 was the breakthrough year: he left Piatti to rely on Vagnozzi.
