“Seven proposals to improve soccer”: Lalas mocked on social media
Former Padua defender Lalas: “Enlarge the goals, 2 points for the goal from outside the box….”
Former Padua and U.S. national team defender Alexi Lalas has been put in the crosshairs on social media after posting his proposals to “improve soccer”-a move that is causing fans to discuss.
“How to improve soccer? Here are a few examples,” Lalas wrote on Twitter: make goals bigger; 2 points for the goal from outside the box; use feet for throw-ins; 30-meter shootouts instead of penalties; offside valid only for the last 30 meters; temporary ejections like in field hockey; hand foul for any hand or arm touch.
While much of the fan base has sharply rejected many of the proposals of the former U.S. national team member, mocked by most, there is more discussion regarding penalty kicks to decide matches, which many would like to replace with shootouts.
