Giancarlo Ferrero ‘sees’ the Final Eight of the Italian Cup

Varese Basketball forward Giancarlo Ferrero spoke in a press conference on the eve of the challenge against Bertram Derthona.

“We came from a complicated game against one of the two strongest teams in the league, but we came out with honor taking with us what we did well. We used the opportunity to grow as a group and now we have another great challenge ahead of us against a solid team like Derthona Basket for which we are extremely motivated. I am sure we will have a great boost from our public who will come in large numbers to support us,” said the Piedmontese basketball player.

“Being close to a goal like the Finale Eight of the Italian Cup gives us more motivation; if we manage to reach it, it would be a great achievement for the club, team and fans because it is a beautiful competition from which we have been missing for too long,” Ferrero stressed. “We have to be good at taking advantage of this home ‘match-ball’ even if we are aware of the difficulty we will face, because Derthona Basket is a great team composed of experienced and well-coached players; it will be a good game and we hope to bring home the result.”

Finally, he commented on Tyler Cain’s return to Varese as a former: “For two seasons he was a great teammate on and off the court. It will be nice to hug him again before the game even though we will then be opponents for 40 minutes; I’m sure the fans will also give him the proper applause.”
