Australian Open qualifiers: 4 Italians to the final round
4 Azzurri will play the main draw
The second round of the Australian Open qualifying draw concluded this morning. There are 4 Italian men and women tennis players who have gained access to the last and decisive round.
In the men’s field, Mattia Bellucci won the derby against Francesco Passaro, defeated 7-6 6-3. Victories also for Matteo Arnaldi, who overcame the Australian Alex Bolt (5-7 7-5 6-4) in a comeback in three hard-fought sets, and for Luciano Darderi, who was also engaged with an Australian – Dane Sweeny -, beaten in three sets with a score of 7-5 1-6 6-1. Instead, Giulio Zeppieri, Gianluca Mager, Raul Brancaccio and Andrea Pellegrino did not make it. Among them, the one who has the most to recriminate is definitely Zeppieri, who got a comeback from the Swiss Leandro Riedi after squandering 3 match points in the final tie-break (6-3 6-7 6-7).
In the women’s field, the only tennis player left in the draw earned the chance to enter the main draw. Lucrezia Stefanini, in fact, defeated Spain’s Rebeka Masarova in a comeback with a score of 1-6 6-3 6-3.
