Marc Marquez ‘special’: Dani Pedrosa reveals former teammate’s secret
An outlier receiving high praise again, from someone who knows him extremely well.
Marc Marquez is preparing for a 2023 that he wants to be the season of his great redemption. The Honda rider, heavily affected in recent seasons by his serious physical problems, has garnered many compliments in this run-up to his return to the MotoGP track, to which have been added those of his longtime teammate, Daniel Pedrosa.
“In Honda I had very strong teammates, like Casey Stoner,” Pedrosa recalled to the microphones of ‘DAZN.’ Marquez, however, was special. On the track he was able to do things that were unthinkable for me, he was able to impress me. And I think if I had suffered some of the accidents that happened to him, I would have ended up in the hospital.”
“At some stages our Honda was going very well, and in fact we were both fast. When there were problems, though, I was struggling and he wasn’t,” Pedrosa noted. “In winning with less-than-perfect bikes was really special. I think of when we switched from Bridgestone tires to Michelin. There were problems, I had a lot of them. He did too, but then he adapted and won the title.”
That is also why Pedrosa said he is convinced that both Honda and Marquez can in the new season attempt an assault on Ducati’s dominance. “We know how quickly things can change in MotoGP. Maybe at the beginning of the championship the balance will be the same as in 2022, but the winter is long and many surprises can happen,” he said.
