Carlo Castellani, touching remembrance in Empoli
Carlo Castellani, touching remembrance in Empoli
“My father taught me the greatness of life and its value. Thank you for remembering him. I will always carry his memory and his story in schools and among young people.” These are the words of Franco Castellani, son of Carlo Castellani, who died inside the Mauthausen concentration camp on August 11, 1944.
The initiative promoted by Ussi Toscana (Gruppo Giornalisti Sportivi), with the collaboration of Empoli FC and the municipalities of Empoli and Montelupo, was scheduled for Jan. 27, on Memorial Day. It was postponed out of respect for the grief of the Castellani family, which lost Carla Castellani, daughter of the unforgettable soccer player, on that day.
A space was dedicated to the testimony of the Castellani family, to which were read the writings of the 3 B students of the “Vanghetti” middle school who wrote about the value of life linked to the memory of Castellani.
The event was attended by Fabrizio Biuzzi, Councillor for Sport of the Municipality of Empoli, Lorenzo Nesi, Councillor for Memory of the Municipality of Montelupo, Alessio Mantellassi, President of the Municipal Council of Empoli and for Ussi Toscana, Gaia Simonetti, Deputy Secretary and delegate for social projects and Carlo Salvadori.
