Elena Fanchini lost her battle with the disease
Farewell to Elena Fanchini
A terrible illness took Elena Fanchini away. She was only 37 years old, the former skier, who had long been struggling to win her toughest battle. She was the older sister of Nadia and Sabrina and in her palmares boasted a world silver medal, won in 2005 in the downhill in Bormio, as well as two World Cup victories also in the same specialty (Lake Louise 2005 and Cortina d’Ampezzo 2015).
Recently Sofia Goggia had dedicated her own victory in the downhill in Cortina precisely to Elena. “That red bib gave me a smile,” Fanchini had commented.
