Zaniolo disposal, Tiago Pinto has double regrets
“A week ago we had a bigger offer.”
Speaking, as usual, in the press conference taking stock of the market session that has just ended, Roma general manager Tiago Pinto focused on the capital club’s most important transaction: the one that resulted in the sale of Nicolò Zaniolo.
Thanks to the agreement between the Giallorossi, Galatasaray and the player, Roma will receive 16.5 million plus 13 million in bonuses. For the player 3.5 million per season until 2027. In addition, the Italian club will be entitled to another 2 million in case of future resale for a sum higher than 20 million, plus 20 percent of any difference in value.
“On Zaniolo I am not hiding from my responsibilities. We could have taken more money, and the proof is that a week ago we had a bigger offer. With all that has happened we have come up with a situation that is not bad for either party. I’m not totally happy, but we could hardly have done better,” he began.
“If Zaniolo had accepted Bournemouth’s offer another asset would have arrived. I don’t want to say who out of respect for the player and the club that got him afterwards. Although we tried to do everything in a tight time frame because when Nicolò made the decision that he wanted to leave, there were still 15 days left until the end of the market. I don’t want to spend the whole press conference talking about Nicolò. When a player as beloved as he is in this city makes the decision that he doesn’t want to train and play for Roma, you have to find a solution: in the end we managed to fix things the way we had to,” the executive concluded.
