Filippo Ganna and the Azzurri are in the final
European Track Championships
Italy’s pursuit team flies into the finals with both women and men and will face Great Britain this evening after 8 p.m. in a double challenge. Filed in both cases the ‘practice’ with France, the Azzurri led by Marco Villa will try to give the first titles to the Italian expedition. This is a summary of what happened in the morning session.
Speed qualifiers: Giada Capobianchi exits at 16 beaten by Lithuania’s Lendel, Miriam Vece at the eighth beaten by France’s Kouame. In the 200 sprint, Vece 10th 10.888, Capobianchi 20th 11.371.
Kilometer: Stefano Moro covers the distance in 1:01.975, for him the 12th time. Quaranta: ‘Stefano showed that he has qualities to work on to improve’. Matteo Bianchi advances to tonight’s eight-man final with the sixth time (1:00.220)
Team pursuit: world champions Balsamo, Guazzini, Fidanza and Paternoster beat France in the first round and will race for gold, against Great Britain (8:34 pm). Improved yesterday’s time. Today the Italian women finished in 4’13″191. Great Britain is two seconds away (4’11″079). In the final for gold, with the best time (3’48″333) and again against Great Britain (3’48″504) also the men’s quartet Ganna, Consonni, Milan, Manlio Moro (8:49 p.m.)
