Yamaha, Morbidelli doesn’t throw it all away
The Italian-Brazilian centaur: “Three really intense days.”
Yamaha centaur Franco Morbidelli took stock after the three-day test in Sepang: “Overall, positive tests. We tried a lot of things and I found a more powerful engine, I am happy with that. The sour note is the time-attack, which was ruined by the rain. But even without it I don’t think I would have done much better.”
Unlike Fabio Quartararo, Morbidelli sees some positive notes: “In time-attack configuration, the bike does not work well with new rubber. In Sepang it was impossible for us to go below 59. However, the stopwatch does not reflect our real potential, because on the race pace we are stronger. I don’t know if it depends on the engine or aerodynamics, this thing we will have to figure out.”
On a personal level Morbidelli is trying to change his approach, “I have to ride more aggressively and I am trying to adapt my approach, because the character of the bike has changed from before. If you want to be a world champion you have to adapt to the characteristics of the bike you have.”
