Federica Brignone returns to dreaming after illness
The words of Federica Brignone
Mikaela Shiffrin leads at the end of the first run of the Meribel World Championships giant slalom with a time of 1’02″54. However, the American boasts only 12 hundredths ahead of Tessa Worley, the home favorite, and 31 ahead of a very generous Federica Brignone, who after a few days of illness, returned to the track putting her all into it. In fourth place was Switzerland’s Lara Gut-Behrami, 64 hundredths behind Shiffrin and followed by the always dangerous Ragnhild Mowinckel at 71 hundredths behind the leader.
Marta Bassino was in line for a place among the leaders but made a mistake halfway down the course, losing speed and finishing in 13th place 1″46 behind. Twentieth place for Asja Zenere at 2″15, while out of the top thirty is Beatrice Sola with a 3″75 disadvantage.
“I’m happy,” said Federica Brignone, “I was not well in the past days and I was a bit worried. This morning I did a warm-up lap and I felt better, so I jumped on the track trying to do my best. I was able to channel all the energy into this run. I hope it gets a little warmer and I like the snow even more and I’ll be able to play it.”
