Lecce surprises Atalanta: strike in Bergamo
Heavy defeat for Gasperini and Atalanta’s Champions ambitions
Lecce’s resounding victory in Bergamo in the 12:30 p.m. advance of the 23rd day of Serie A: Baroni’s team defeated Gian Piero Gasperini’s Atalanta 2-1 at the Gewiss Stadium thanks to goals from Ceesay and Blin. Thanks to this success, the Giallorossi climb to 27 points, +10 from the relegation zone, while Atalanta remains fourth at 41.
The cold goal blew up the initial plans of the Bergamasks: in the 4th minute Ceesay received on the edge, managed to hold off Demiral and left-footed surprised Musso from the distance. After the guests’ advantage, Atalanta immediately took the game in hand with its usual flair, but failed to materialize the chances it had. Hojlund, Maehle and Lookman create a number of chances, defused by Falcone or by the inaccuracy of the Nerazzurri attackers.
In the second half, the Dea’s pressure continued, but with cynicism Lecce doubled in the 74th minute: on Strefezza’s corner, Blin left free in the area made it 2-0. The hosts don’t give up, after a chance by Toloi it’s Hojlund who reopens it thanks to a gift from Falcone, who gets his deflection intercepted by the Danish striker. Fiery finale, Muriel has a great chance but Falcone redeems himself by parrying the Colombian’s shot.
