Rafa Benitez clear on Napoli’s ambitions

Napoli is having an extraordinary season, as evidenced by the 15-point lead in the league and the quality of play expressed by Luciano Spalletti’s squad in Europe as well. Rafa Benitez, who coached the Azzurri from 2013 to 2015, also had his say on the performance and ambitions of the partenopei.

“Now it is easy to say that Napoli will win the Scudetto. I told Spalletti in early November. We met in a hotel in Liverpool. The boys were coming off a very long winning streak and were still undefeated in all competitions. At that moment I told Luciano that he would bring the Scudetto back to Campania. He did not want to hear also for a matter of superstition, but I felt even then that it would be the right year,” began the former Liverpool coach as reported by “La Gazzetta dello Sport.”

“When we talk about favorites in the Champions League everyone will always say Real Madrid, Manchester City, Bayern Munich. For me, Napoli has all the right cards to impose themselves in Europe as well. They are confident, they have nothing to lose and the large lead in the league will allow less distraction both physically and mentally. They can go ahead in the Champions League and the more they do that the more they will gain awareness. By this I am not saying they will win the cup, but they have all the means to go far in this competition,” Benitez concluded on the partenopei’s European ambitions.
