Sofia Goggia between calculations and desire for redemption
Sofia Goggia can immediately redeem disappointment at Worlds
After the interlude dedicated to the World Championships in Courchevel/Meribel, the Alpine skiing world dives back into the World Cup, now in its final weeks: an important opportunity for redemption for those who did not come out of the rainbow event with a smile, as happened to Sofia Goggia.
The champion from Bergamo has already set her sights on the downhill scheduled in Crans Montana, Switzerland, on Saturday, February 25, a race that could hold something special in store: currently, with three downhill runs to go in the Specialty Cup, Goggia has a 108-point lead over her nearest rival, Slovenia’s Ilka Stuhec (480 to 372). Elena Curtoni follows at -202 (278 points), even further back Corinne Suter (218 to her credit) and Kira Weidle (203). Should the gap between Goggia and her nearest opponent exceed 200 points the Specialty Cup would already arrive in Switzerland-a very difficult, but not entirely impossible, eventuality.
The Bergamasque has already shown in the recent past that she can overcome great difficulties, as much from the physical point of view as from the mental pressure: next weekend will give further answers in this sense.
