Diego Flaccadori, trial completed: ‘I am a point guard’
Italy-Ukraine is scheduled to meet in Livorno today
There will be a sold-out crowd today in Livorno for Italy-Ukraine (9 p.m.), the penultimate match of the FIBA World Cup 2023 Qualifiers. Coach Pozzecco’s national team is already certain of a World Cup pass. There will also be space on the court for Flaccadori, who, with the Trento jersey, is having an extremely positive season. By now, the 26-year-old Azzurri feels he has matured to the right point.
Even on the role there are no more doubts, as he explains to Corriere dello Sport: “Playmaker. The process is finished, although I have to admit that when I play with the club together with Spagnolo or in the National team alongside Spissu, Pajola or Mannion, going back to my origins as a guard doesn’t displease me.” On his role in the national team, however, there is room to grow: “Since I returned home from Bayern Munich, the calls to the Azzurri have started again. I participated in rallies and made it to the fateful days of cuts. Not moving on did not depress me; on the contrary, it gave me greater motivation to grow further.”
