Leadership: a big trouble at home Turin
In the last few market sessions, Torino has lost several very important players for both technical qualities and leadership skills (Belotti, Bremer, Mandragora, and others) and now risks having to say goodbye to others.
The players currently on the roster with the most appearances are Ola Aina, Djidji, Singo, and Rodriguez. The first two have contracts expiring in 2023, the other two in 2024. Recently Vagnati, when asked about the very issue of renewals, said, “We are talking to those we think are right to talk to but we must not force too much. We are Torino: whoever wants to stay must be available. If someone legitimately has a hesitation it’s okay, there are many players in the world. I repeat, we are talking with those we are interested in, if there is no extension then we will take note.”
“In these two years we have changed 85 percent of the team. We need to build a new hard core, new leadership, a sense of belonging. These sound like catch phrases but they are not, in fact it is a very important issue. A person who stays four years in a society experiences the game differently than someone who has arrived recently or someone who knows he will leave,” Vagnati added.
