Genoa beats Spal, Gilardino extols team: ‘Great approach’
High praise to the team for a victory that can be worth a lot in the promotion race.
Alberto Gilardino extols his Genoa, second in Serie B after the non-trivial home win over Spal. And the Grifone coach, in a press conference, stresses, “The credit goes to the boys, for the approach they had in this match. They put in strength, balance, running and lucidity.”
Genoa only managed to break the deadlock in the 77th minute, and then went on to run rampant. “I had told them that they had to find the right episode to determine this match,” Gilardino stressed. “And so it happened, as we unlocked it on a spot kick. In the first half we could do well, but in maneuver we were a bit slow. In the second half, then, we accelerated and this allowed us to lay the foundation for the victory.”
Gilardino then dwelt on the “Ferraris factor” and his Genoa’s work on free kicks. “When we play at home we manage to analyze several situations in one game. Credit to the balance and solidity we manage to find, which we must also seek on the road. And on set-pieces we are working to decide matches, with the lucidity of the one who beats and the courage and timing of the one who goes to jump,” he explained.
