Sassuolo, salvation blow: Lecce beaten at ‘Via del Mare’
Lecce-Sassuolo 0-1
Sassuolo defeated Lecce away 1-0 in Saturday night’s match of the 24th round of Serie A, earning three crucial points on their way to safety.
At the ‘Via del Mare’ the match started well for the hosts, who came close to scoring in the first minutes with Ceesay and Strefezza, but Sassuolo gradually gained ground and only Falcone’s skill prevented Ruan Tressoldi from putting the neroverdi ahead midway through the first half.
In the second half again good start for Lecce, dangerous with Strefezza first and Colombo then, but in the 65th minute it was the visiting team that scored: corner from the right by Berardi, Thorstvedt hit a header and the ball he hit, thanks to a slight deflection by Hjulmand, went past the Giallorossi goalkeeper.
Despite their efforts in the last half hour, Lecce failed to recover: Sassuolo won, joining Marco Baroni’s own team in 13th place in the standings, with 27 points to their credit.
