Fernando Alonso third, Red Bull irony: “Very familiar car”
A podium that caught the attention of those who may soon prove to be direct opponents.
Fernando Alonso took third place at the Bahrain Grand Prix, finished behind only the Red Bulls of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez. And his Aston Martin’s great exploit immediately ended up at the center of the Anglo-Austrian team’s attention, with statements destined to cause discussion.
At the microphones of ‘Sky Sport,’ in fact, team principal Christian Horner praised Aston Martin’s performance with sibylline words: “They did very well, with a single-seater that seems very familiar to us.” Even more direct Sergio Perez, in the post-race press conference, “To see three Red Bulls on the podium is nice,” said the Mexican.
The reference, indirect but clear, is to Dan Fallows. The latter, in fact, is as of this season technical director for Aston Martin, but he worked as an engineer on the design of the RB18 with which Max Verstappen won his second world title in 2022. And at Milton Keynes, the feeling is therefore that Alonso did well in Bahrain partly thanks to technical solutions derived from Red Bull’s successes.
