Inter, one goal per time and Lecce knocked out: at San Siro ends 2-0
One goal per time to take back second place in the standings.
Inter were surgical at the San Siro, where Lecce fell 2-0 after goals from Calhanoglu and Lautaro Martinez. The victory allows the Nerazzurri to put the Bologna knockout behind them and take back second place in the Serie A standings. And Napoli, defeated at home by Lazio in Saturday night’s early match, is now at -15 points.
Inter got off to a strong start, with Calhanoglu committing Falcone after a few minutes. Lecce is there, and from the distance Ceesay tries to mock Onana. But after a header by Dzeko that makes San Siro gasp on the development of a corner, comes the Nerazzurri advantage. The minute is the 29th minute, and on the developments of a Gosens scramble on the left Barella finds Calhanoglu ready for the conclusion that ends up under the crossbar. The guests try to react with a treacherous conclusion by Gonzalez, but they also make several inaccuracies in defense of which Inter did not take advantage.
The resumption began in a volitional manner for Lecce, whose match, however, effectively ended in the 53rd minute. Credit to Lautaro Martinez, who with a great right footed shot rewarded the assist of Dumfries free to run to the right on Barella’s support. This time the Salento formation failed to react, so much so that it was Falcone who prevented Dzeko from signing the tris. In the final, Oudin, Hjulmand and Banda then tried, but the result did not change anymore.
