F1 Mercedes, Toto Wolff disconsolate: ‘Car to be trashed’

After the discouraging words of George Russell (“Red Bull will win every race”), Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff also spoke harshly about the W14’s performance in Bahrain and the obvious difficulties of the German team’s car.

“After what we saw in the first Grand Prix I think Red Bull will win all the races this year. We arrived in Bahrain with a lot of confidence, but to be faced with such a clear gap is terrible,” admitted the Austrian executive. “They can play with the competition, they have no problems with tire degradation. We have to face reality and work to find solutions as soon as possible.”

“Last year we managed to improve gradually while also managing to be competitive in the season finale. However, nothing seems to be working now. The W14 is probably to be trashed. We definitely will not be able to compete for victory in this championship,” these are the harsh words of the Austrian team principal reported in the “Osterreich” newspaper.
