After much criticism, comes a first official about-face.

Max Verstappen won the Bahrain Grand Prix, the opening race of the 2023 Formula 1 championship. Behind him came teammate Sergio Perez and Fernando Alonso, for a podium finish that sparked some irony in the Red Bull household. Indeed, several influential voices have pointed out the “similarity” between the Asturian’s Aston Martin and the cars that preceded it. One of them is that of Helmut Marko, who, however, has since decided to clarify his words.

“When I said those things, I meant to make a joking remark. I absolutely did not mean to allude to a transfer of intellectual property, absolutely not. And I didn’t want to accuse anyone,” Marko in fact explained to the Germans from ‘Formel1.de’.

“No one should feel under attack, the only thing I wanted to state is that at a glance the Aston Martin is the car that most resembles the Red Bull,” Marko concluded.
